 Chicago’s transit line features two different rails: the subway and the “L” (derived from “elevated”). Tickets for these rails are required and can be purchased in single ride or unlimited ride passes through the Ventra vending machines in any station. Ventra cards are convenient and can be loaded with cash amounts from $1-$300 (max $100 in one transaction). Mobile pay apps are also accepted. These allow for contactless pay using a Ventra card or pay-as-you-go**.

Ticket Prices effective January 2018: 

“L” train fare: $2.50

Bus fare: $2.25 (except cash is $2.50) 

Passes:

1-Day CTA Pass: $10

3-Day CTA Pass: $20

7-Day CTA Pass: $28

Reduced Fares: “L” train fare: $1.25; Bus fare: $1.10

Valid for:

  • Children ages 7-11
  • Students ages 7-20 (valid 5:30am-8:30pm on school days, with permit)
  • RTA Reduced Fare Permit (eligible seniors, Medicare recipients, people with disabilities)

Ride For Free:

  • Children under 7, riding with fare-paying customer
  • Military Personnel (full uniform & proper ID)
  • Seniors (65+)
  • People with disabilities (IL resident)

*Note: O’Hare Station has add’l fees

**Pay-as-you-go fare: $2.50
